Steak Udon Noodles
Ingredients:
For the Steak
1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon mirin (Japanese sweet rice wine)
1 tablespoon sake (optional)
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 teaspoon sugar
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
For the Noodles and Sauce
14 oz fresh or frozen udon noodles
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
3 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons oyster sauce
1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
1 tablespoon mirin
1 teaspoon sugar
1/4 cup water or beef broth
1 teaspoon sesame oil
For the Garnish
Sesame seeds
Chopped green onions
Red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions:
Marinate the Steak:
In a medium bowl, combine soy sauce, mirin, sake (if using), sesame oil, sugar, minced garlic, and grated ginger.
Add the thinly sliced steak to the marinade, tossing to coat evenly. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours for better flavor.
Cook the Udon Noodles:
Cook the udon noodles according to the package instructions. If using fresh or frozen udon, typically you’ll need to boil them for 1-2 minutes until just tender.
Drain and set aside.
Cook the Steak:
Add the marinated steak slices in a single layer. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until the steak is browned and cooked through. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.
Prepare the Sauce:
In the same skillet, add soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, mirin, sugar, and water or beef broth. Stir well to combine and bring to a simmer.
Combine Everything:
Add the cooked udon noodles, stir-fried vegetables, and cooked steak back to the skillet. Toss everything together to coat evenly with the sauce.
Drizzle with sesame oil and continue to cook for another 1-2 minutes until everything is heated through.
Serve:
Divide the steak udon noodles among serving bowls.
Garnish with sesame seeds, chopped green onions, and red pepper flakes if desired.
